Lokal is a platform connecting users with nearby African and Caribbean stores, allowing them to shop for groceries, beauty products, and more from local businesses. Initially named Folo, the platform was rebranded to Lokal to better reflect its focus on local stores. It enables stores to create digital shops and reach nearby customers, starting with categories like Hair, Beauty, and Food, with plans to expand further. The platform was developed over three years, overcoming challenges such as technical issues and the need for a more inclusive name, and aims to support the African diaspora and anyone interested in these communities.
